At SMD Formwork Ltd, we're very proud to have been part of the team working on the Brighton i360, situated at the heart of Brighton seafront.
Britain’s highest observation tower
At 162 metres high, and with an observation pod rising to 138 metres, the i360 will be Britain’s highest observation tower outside London, taller even than the London Eye.
With main civil contractors Mackley, we worked on the foundations and substructure for the building and tower, comprising bored concrete piles, contiguous piled wall and construction of a vast concrete raft.
Pouring 162 lorry loads of concrete
These works culminated in over 2,500 tonnes of concrete, which were poured on Saturday 30th May, 2015.
Everything went well and we were even lucky with the weather, which allowed all 162 lorry loads to be delivered as planned.
The pour attracted significant media interest including a feature on BBC South East Today.
